California Poppies

When I was in South Pasadena I found these poppies known as the Matilija Poppy or Tree Poppy. I’ve seen other artists paint these so was thrilled to find a large plant in bloom one day. Painting these is a bit like painting a snow scene. The white petals only need some suggestion of shadow and the most work goes into the background.
